QUALIFICATION:

Qualifying times and distances are based on the SASOL points table.

To qualify, athletes must achieve the standard in one season, at two or more separate official meetings:

  • 2 x half colours in one or more events = half colours
  • 2 x full colours in any two events = full colours.

One season means from October to April. However, athletes who achieve the required standards during one school year, January to December, may also be considered.

For athletes who do athletics as their main sport, the 80% attendance is non-negotiable, and the athlete would be expected to compete in all competitions available to them (e.g. inter schools, zonals, WP trials, etc)

For those who do another sport as their main sport, it is expected that the pupil complies with the 80% attendance for that sport as non-negotiable, and also competes at all the athletics competitions as far as the other sport allows.

Team Colours:

  • An athlete must compete in at least 80% of the competitions the school enters for, be a dedicated athlete and should attend all practices AND
  • If an athlete achieves a podium position at the inter schools competition and competes at the zonal championships.

Half Colours:

  • An athlete must achieve the SASOL points as explained above or,
  • If an athlete achieves a podium position at the zonal competition and competes at the WP champs, AND where the performance is within the range of the SASOL points indicators for half colours.

Full Colours:

  • An athlete must achieve the SASOL points as explained above or,
  • If an athlete achieves a podium at the WP champs, and the performance is at least worthy of half colours on the SASOL tables, OR if the athlete represents the WP team.

5. CROSS COUNTRY
